Shaving in the shower is common because it’s quick, convenient and effective. Shaving legs and underarms in the shower, however, can be tricky – especially if you want to avoid nicks and cuts. We’ve gathered together our top shaving tips for women, so you can learn how to shave your legs and other areas in the shower like a pro.
Your shower shouldn’t feel like a water park. Protect yourself from slipping and sliding with a good shower mat or adhesive treads. The more secure you are, the easier it will be to shave those lovely legs. If you have a particularly hard time shaving in the shower, you can get a shower stool to help you keep your balance
Don’t skip the shower.
Did you know hydration is important to the shaving process? Dry shaving (or shaving without water or shaving cream) can lead to irritation and increase your chance of getting nicks and cuts. Instead of dry shaving, jump in your shower and soak your body in warm water for two to three minutes. To get your skin and hair at its softest, shower as you would normally, and then shave at the end. This will help you get the best and smoothest shave.
Exfoliation is key.
Removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin will prep your legs, arms and underarms for the shaving process and help you get as smooth a shave as possible. Grab your favorite body wash or scrub and get to it. Rubbing too hard can cause damage to your skin, so be gentle, but firm in the cleaning process.
Use women’s shaving cream.
Don’t skip the shaving cream! Using a shaving gel for women will help hydrate your skin, protect from irritation and ensure your razor gets a smooth glide. There are a lot of shave gels from which to choose! From fresh aromas to formulas for sensitive skin, your shave gel can be a reflection of who you are. Pick one that makes you feel your best!
Choose a women’s razor.
At Venus®, we know the best razor for women is one made for women. Don’t grab your man’s razor or settle for a no-frills substitute. They aren’t designed for the contours of your body! Instead, we recommend using the Venus Embrace razor. Like all Venus razors, it is designed just for women. Its rounded head, five blades that adjust to every curve, and Ribbon of MoistureTM ensure smooth results. It also has an easy-to-grip handle for more control, and it comes with an in-shower razor holder, so you can keep it within arm’s reach.
Perfect the shaving process.
Honestly, the more you shave, the easier it will get – and that holds true for shaving in the shower. Play around a bit to find which positions and parts of the shower make shaving easier. This is a great time to try out a shower stool if you have one. When shaving, pull the razor gently across the desired areas and rinse your razor blades between strokes. Don’t skip the rinsing step or you can reduce the quality of your shave. When you’re done, rinse the skin completely and pat dry. Be careful when stepping out of the shower, as the shaving cream and other bath products can cause the floor to be more slippery than normal.
